SPECTROCAN completed a detailed study of the existing radio spectrum management
administration in Dhaka, Bangladesh in August 2000. The study was sponsored
by the Canada-Bangladesh Infrastructure Consultants (CBIC) and funded
by CIDA. It included recommendations on resolving serious frequency allocation
problems in the radio-telephone sector as well as a number of recommendations
to improve the existing administrative structures in Dhaka.
For
the same client, in May 2001 in preparation for the creation of the Bangladesh
Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Spectrocan was contracted to
conduct a study focusing on the feasibility of outsourcing spectrum management
and control operations in Bangladesh. The study considered the possible
alternatives of involving the private sector in technical and administrative
aspects of spectrum management, and incorporated a preliminary control
network design and a financial model linking the cost of operation and
the potential spectrum related revenues.
